The Smart Plant Treatment System developed with our partner Tecnovite within the Value for Innovation,co-financing program, was initially designed for vineyards but can be applied in general to the treatment of all types of plants. It allows the spraying of treatment substances with high energy efficiency while minimizing environmental dispersion,resulting in benefits both for the environment and for resource optimization.
Energy inefficiency and excessive material usage: the old plant treatment systems
I Traditional plant treatment systems suffer from two fundamental issues that lead to negative consequences for both the environment and the farm::
- An ecological problem con conseguenze sulla salutewith health implications: the dispersion of treatment substances into the air and soil causes pollution and poses risks to the health of agricultural workers.
- An efficiency problem:the use of resources is excessive compared to what is actually needed for treatment.
In other words, traditional systems waste resources— which negatively affects both the environment and the economic sustainability of the farm.
Some of these outdated plant treatment systems attempt to solve the problem through forced recovery of excess material, for example by suctioning the dispersed treatment substance so that it can be redirected, or through the use of collection tanks.
Other older and more advanced solutions combine two separate steps: wetting and moving the branches and leaves, in order to expose the grape clusters and apply the treatment material directly. While this method is found in various legacy systems, they all still suffer from considerable energy inefficiency and excessive consumptionof treatment materials — due to the use of turbulent air flow as the means of transport for the atomized treatment particles.
The new smart plant treatment system
The new plant treatment system— particularly for vineyards— is characterized byhigh energy efficiency and the elimination of product drift effects, meaning the reduction of airborne and soil dispersion of treatment substances. This leads to significant savings in the amount of product used and a much lower environmental impact..
With the new smart plant treatment system, the amount of material needed is reduced to the bare minimum, resulting in optimized resource usage and lower environmental impact..
